Dr. Katlyn Turner

MIT Media Labs

Dr. Katlyn Turner (she/her/hers, they/them/theirs) is an interdisciplinary scholar and researcher. She is currently a Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab, where her work focuses on the crossroads between technologies, infrastructures, equity and intersectionality. Dr. Turner is also the founder of a boutique consulting group, KTLN Consulting, which works with organizations large and small wishing to use research and education to advance equity in their work.

Her career began in the environmental sector; she studied nuclear waste management and environmental policy during her education at the University of Notre Dame (BS), University of Michigan (MS), Stanford University (PhD), and Harvard University (Postdoc).

Her broader portfolio of work considers how small or innocuous societal, technical, and policy decisions have often sweeping consequences for historically marginalized identities, and the ways in which intersectionally marginalized individuals and groups use technologies and systems to work towards self determination and sovereignty over their own lives.
